Meet our May MVP Aklesso Agama

Hi Aklesso, Tell us about your role with the team at Hope for Miami.

I’m Aklesso Agama and I'm a Health Educator with Project U-Turn. We’re a prevention program that helps students make healthy choices.

How do you think your skills, knowledge and interests equip you to do your tasks?

I have a real passion for helping people, especially the youth. I remember how tough things were for me as I was growing up without a father, so being able to help and even mentor kids is truly a joy for me. The students relate to me not just because I'm young, but because I understand the world they live in.

What’s one aspect of Hope for Miami’s work that most encourages and motivates you?

The part of this work that encourages me is knowing we are truly helping people. It's easy to get caught up in a “numbers game," but when you're truly passionate about what you do, alongside skills and experience, you can see real impact.

Tell us something interesting about yourself to help us get to know you better.

One interesting thing about me is I'm a Hip-Hop artist. I have over 120,000+ monthly listeners on Spotify and I just joined a collective called HEAVENONEARTH. We plan to drop an album June 30th!

Thanks AK for being a member of the Hope for Miami team and for your vital contributions!
