His peers selected Markaly Avril as the latest Most Valuable Player at Hope for Miami for his excellent attitude and helpfulness. Mark has been part of the Ready4Life team since he started with us in September 2023 and has nearly completed his Master of Science in Public Health from George Washington University. His most recent position has been as the Data Manager for a federal project, following his demonstrated effectiveness as a Health Educator.
Here’s a peek at Markaly and his attitude toward his work:
What in your personal background contributes to your ability to work with youth?
“My ability to work with youth stems from the nurturing guidance I received
from my parents, teachers, and community leaders growing up. They taught
me the importance of empathy, patience, and accountability—values I now
bring into my own approach with the youth we serve. Their example showed
me that effective leadership is built on genuine care, consistency, and belief
in someone’s potential, and I strive to model that same support and
encouragement when working with youth today.”
Tell us about a memorable moment in the classroom or an activity with the youth
you serve?
“Some of the most memorable moments have been hearing back firsthand from students on how the Ready4Life program has made a positive difference in their lives. These memories include when youth stated they had left an unhealthy, toxic, or abusive relationship as well as when they had mended relationships with family members.”
What is your wish for future programs at Hope for Miami?
“My wish for the future of Hope for Miami is that our programs continue to
grow and expand in serving the community. Whether we are enhancing our
curriculum, developing new initiatives, or planning events, we remain
intentional about creating spaces that reflect our faith, values, and
commitment to others. Above all, striving to make a lasting, positive impact by
supporting families and nurturing hope—especially during challenging times.”
Mark, thank you for your hard work and dedication to everything you do!
