HOW THIS PROJECT CAME ABOUT

​

Every year, the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce selects a cohort of local leaders for its Leadership Miami training program. Leadership Miami offers an intensive learning experience for “participants” that focuses on building leadership skills, networking, and education that prepares these leaders for future engagement in Miami.

 

Part of the Leadership Miami training is the annual non-profit competition. At this competition, local organizations “pitch” a project that can be completed within 90-100 days through volunteer labor and fundraising efforts, and the “Committed 2 Miami” team selected our proposal for “The Learning Lab!” This project will remodel an existing classroom in our headquarters to promote literacy and English learning in the Flagami community and beyond!

​Improve Reading and Literacy Skills

The improved reading space will be utilized by our K-5th grade students at our West Flagler Park location year-round. Weekend usage will be made available to ensure all youth in our community

have access.

Improve English Language Proficiency

We will offer self-paced English learning via electronic language learning software to our children and community members, as well as host weekly classes to learn English in collaboration with a

community partner.

Provide a Resource Room

This shared space can be utilized by community-based organizations and agencies to provide valuable information and resources to the community.
