OAYI
Hope for Miami is a community-engagement partner with Miami-Dade County in the Opioid-Affected Youth Initiative (OAYI), funded by the U.S. Department of Justice.
OAYI exists to reduce the mis-use of opioid and other prescription drugs by educating parents, other adult influencers of youth such as teachers & coaches – and youth themselves. Over-use and mis-use of opioids can lead to addiction and serious consequences like early death in young people. Opioids include doctor-prescribed pain medications (like Vicodin, Percoset, codeine or morphine) but also include street drugs such as heroin and fentanyl. Parents need to become more aware of other pain medicine alternatives as well as how to properly dispose of prescription medicines.
